George Barris Beginnings Part 1
and Sam Barris in 1924 in Chicago where they lost their
parents, and loving relatives raised them as their own.
In 1928 the family moved to Roseville California
where they bought a restaurant, and the boys helped out.
Sam and George loved school and took drawing,
drama,and music.
George loved to build scratch built planes, but changed
before he was ten, when he switched to model cars and
was winning model competitions.
Both boys enrolled in drama school where they
were taught music, dance, and drama.By age ten
they were regular performers playing music on
stage through out the Sacramento area.(One old timer
said George Barris moved to Hollywood because he
was professional tap dancer. While this was the wrong
conclusion,it did show people they were interested in
their talent.)
A couple of years later their parents gave them a
bonus for working in the restaurant a 1925 Buick. This
was their first Barris Brothers custom car.
They straightened up the body and interior adding
button accessories before George hand painted t
car orange with blue stripes. They sold the car and
bought a 1929 Model A.
The Model A was customized with accessories
including aerials,lights,Auburn exhaust pipes coming
through the side panels, and hood ornament
